  English will be the official language of APEC Workshop for Thin Film Metrology and APEC Nanoscale Measurement Technology Forum.
   
Letter of invitation
  Upon request, the Secretariat will issue a letter of invitation for participant's travel and visa arrangements.
   
Visa
  Visas are required to enter Taiwan. Visa-exempt entry is only eligible to the citizens of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. and U.S.A. The 30 days’ duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival and is not extendable.
   
Currency and Banks
  The currency is New Taiwan dollar (NT$). The exchange rate is approximately NT$32.5:US$1 (subject to change). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, airports, and banks. Major credit cards are widely accepted, and traveler’s checks may be accepted by a number of tourist-oriented shops and at most international tourist hotels and banks. Banks open whole day from 09:00 to 15:30, Monday through Friday and are closed during national holiday and weekend.
   
Climate
  Taiwan enjoys a subtropical climate, with warm, mild weather the year round. The average temperature of Taipei and Hsinchu in September is around 24℃~31℃.
   
Electricity
  Electricity is supplied at 110 Volts A.C. 60 cycles. The standard fittings are for flat two-pin-plugs.
   
Time Zone
  Taiwan is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
   
Transportation
  CKS International Airport is located in Taoyuan County about 50 minutes by car or bus north to Taipei or 45 minutes south to Hsinchu.
 
  • Airport pick-up by Taxi or Bus
    45 min to 1 hour may be needed to make the trip at normal traffic. Airport Taxis charge according to the meter plus a 50% surcharge (highway tolls not included), and provide transport to anywhere in Taiwan. Typical fare to Taipei by taxi is about NT$1,100 (one way), and NT$100~145 by bus (one way). As to Hsinchu, no bus service is available and the average fare to Hsinchi by taxi is about NT$1,200.
  • Airport pick-up by Hotel Limousine
    If required, the Secretariat will help to make the reservation before your arriving Taiwan. Average fare is about NT$1,320~1,430 (one way) to Taipei and NT$1,470 (one way) to Hsinchu.
  • Shuttle bus during the conferences
    During the workshop/forum periods, Shuttle Bus (morning and late afternoon round) between the designated hotels and the conference venues will be provided daily.
  • Shuttle bus from Hsinchu to Taipei
    Shuttle bus from Hsinchu to Taipei will be arranged in the afternoon of 4 September 2007 for all attendees who are attending the two conferences.
