NML announced the establishment of a dynamic formaldehyde concentration standard and new calibration service available for formaldehyde analysis equipment.  The new measurement standard is established to safeguard the public health by providing a metrological traceability to assure the accuracy of formaldehyde detection.  Formaldehyde is an important indoor air pollutant and the source of oxidizing agents in the atmosphere.  Long-term exposure may cause irritation to the skin, eyes, or respiratory tract, and even carcinogenic effects. 

Due to the significant impact of formaldehyde on health, Taiwan’s "Indoor Air Quality Standards" has defined its permissible exposure limit to be cumulative sampling concentration value below 0.08 ppm per hour.  Responding to the regulations, different types of formaldehyde detectors are widely used for exposure evaluation, which also results in the needs of building accurate measurement standard to achieve metrological traceability.  The new measurement standard we developed includes the use of permeation method combined with dynamic blending techniques, which is suitable for highly adsorptive or reactive gas mixtures prepared in low concentrations.  It prevents the challenges of storage of reactive gas in cylinders, such as temperature, vibration, pipeline instability.

In addition, a direct reading formaldehyde gas analyzer calibration system is available and open to provide service for ensuring the measuring accuracy of formaldehyde.  The calibration concentration range is between 1 to 10 ppm, with relative uncertainties of 0.0067 ppm.  Details are posted on the website at http://www.nml.org.tw/en/service/calibration-accreditation/calibration-capability/chemistry-standards.html.
